 Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make an appointment? . . .

You can call our intake coordinator at 215-354-0777 or alternatively fill out our new appointment request form under "Schedule an Appointment" to arrange for an initial appointment.

Does your practice take my insurance? . . .

New Leaf accepts most major insurances, including CHIP programs for children and adolescents. We are also providers for several employee assistance programs (EAPs) which may be offered through your workplace. We do not accept any Medicaid plans at this time.

What are your hours? . . .

Our offices are open Monday through Friday with day and evening hours. Appointments are set by our therapists with your availability and needs in mind.

I don’t have insurance. Can you help me? . . .

Yes. Our therapists can charge on a fee for service basis. These fees are set by the therapists independently. For those clients with monetary considerations, we have a therapist available to work with clients on a “sliding scale.” At New Leaf, therapist and client work together to set a fee which will commensurate with situational affordability.

How long are appointments? . . .

The standard length of an appointment is 45 minutes.

Can I take my son/daughter/ward out of school to see a therapist? . . .

That is a decision which must be ultimately made by you as the primary caregiver or parent. We often see children and adolescents during the school day while coordinating school schedule with therapy schedule when necessary so as to ensure that critical subjects or material is not missed with regularity and no hardships are faced due to scheduling conflicts. We have found most school districts are cooperative and sensible, and willing to work with us in this regard.

What populations do you work with? . . .

We serve all age groups at New Leaf, with therapists trained and experienced working with children as young as toddlers and adults in their geriatric years.

Do you offer group sessions? . . .

Yes, we often accommodate family issues by addressing and assessing individual needs facilitated through a group dynamics process when applicable. We can also offer social skills groups for children, adolescents, and adults.

Do you have a psychiatrist on staff? . . .

We do not. New Leaf is a psycho-therapeutic office. We are a practice of therapists, not medical doctors. We can refer clients to psychiatrists based on need, however.

Do you offer any psychological testing? . . .

Yes, we offer ADHD testing for children, adolescents, and adults. We use two separate measures to evaluate. One is a self-reported measure done in the form of a questionnaire. The second is a computerized test of variable attention, which takes approximately twenty minutes and is given at our office by trained clinicians. Both measures can be completed within a day. The results of these measures are analyzed and clinical recommendations are thereafter given during a session following the administration testing.

Can the therapists prescribe medication? . . .

No, they cannot. Sometimes our therapists do work in conjunction with primary care physicians and psychiatrists to ensure a continuity of care. There are also times therapists will give recommendations regarding psychotropic medications prescribed to their client.

What therapeutic models do your therapists follow? . . .

Each therapist practices in her/her own unique, professional style. Some of the models used by our clinicians include: cognitive/behavioral therapy, solutions-focused therapy and client-centered therapy models. Each therapist, while working with a client, uses a therapeutic technique and model they feel will promote the greatest therapeutic outcome for that client. At New Leaf, our therapists realize the practice of therapy is fluid and can change pursuant to situations faced by, and the needs of, a client.
